Farmers of Mwongori village, Nyamira County have raised alarm over the monkeys which have invaded their farms.

They claimed that the monkeys come from tea estate bushes have invaded their farms and destroyed crops. 

“We have incurred huge losses following the invasion of monkeys in our farms. Sugarcane, bananas, maize, Sukuma wiki at our farms have been destroyed by the monkeys,” said Naomi Onsombi.

Dominic Kirera, a banana farmer called on Kenya Wildlife officers to move with speed and take away the monkeys from the area before they turn to locals. 

“KWS should intervene and drive away the animals from the region so that our crops can mature for us to harvest. The monkeys may destroy maize in farms once they mature,” he noted. 

He noted that residents will kill the monkeys if they will not be driven away from the region by Monday. 

 Kirera added that the county government of Nyamira should consider compensating the affected farmers following the destruction of their crops by the monkeys.
