Maize farmers in Bobaracho location Kisii County are optimistic to harvest more yield this season.

This follows the ongoing down pour the region is receiving since early April.

According to one of the farmers Moses Mokaya said that due to current weather conditions maize has been thriving excellently.

“Since the rains started pouring maize crop is thriving very well and we expect good harvest,” said Mokaya.

He further added that the weather condition have given them hope in farming than previous years owing heavy down pour and maize diseases are kept at bay.

“We are hopeful this time and diseases are kept at bay.

He said that as farmers they were lucky to have purchased good quality maize seeds and fertilizer that was pocket friendly to many small scale farmers.

Another farmer Mary Mogaka also recounts how her maize crop have been thriving well and she is hopeful that hunger will be kept at bay.

 “I am confident that during this year hunger will be kept at bay because we are expecting bumper harvest,” claimed Mogaka.

Kisii County is well known for its rich in farm produce owing to its ideal location in highlands and also receives adequate rainfall for farming.
