Farmers in Hola Scheme, Tana River county are expected to harvest about 1.5 tonnes of sorghum this season.

The farmers were funded by the East African Breweries Limited to cultivate 1,200 acres of sorghum instead of the planned 1,400 acres.

However, The National Irrigation Board county manager Josiah Gathoni said farmers were not fully engaged due to machine use.

"Our farmers did not good support during the cultivation period since this could have helped the farmers harvest in plenty", said Gathoni.

He also lamented of the poor environment conditions that hindered the farmers' activities.

"Drought also hindered the farming of sorghum.  The government should help boost the irrigation programmes in the county in future", he noted.

Tana River County is one of the counties experiencing prolonged drought.
