Carrying placards and twigs, the farmers who included the old and young raided a cess collection point on the Narok side to express their anger.

Armed rangers from Narok County had to fire in the air to disperse the irate crowd that wanted to torch the centre.

Emotions run high on the dilapidated road as the residents vowed that they would no longer pay cess to Narok County government until the situation was addressed.

This came as details emerged that farm produce worth millions of shillings was going to waste on a daily basis as transporters could not access farms.

The four-hour standoff was caused by the poor status of the Sakutiek-Naiborajik road, which is used to supply tonnes of farm produce and hundreds of livestock on daily basis.

A visit to the region found sections of the roads washed up, others completely impassable while others hung precariously.
