This was necessitated by recent drought that persisted for a record period of two months which culminated into the loss of many cattle out of starvation, said area MP Ben Momanyi, who sponsored the event.

Momanyi hired agricultural experts from Kenya Research Institute to conduct clinics to farmers across the constituency as a way of imparting necessary skills for them in farming.

They will specifically focus on nappier grass, which acts as an alternative to natural grass in the times of severe drought.

“I have hired experts who will be moving in every corner of this constituency to help people on how to plant nappier grass that could last for long. It will help us deal with severe droughts,” Momanyi said at Mwongori secondary school.

“If we learn on how grow nappier grass that can last for long, we will be able to handle situations such as those that occurred earlier this year. I know experts will help you a lot,” said the Wiper legislator.

Momanyi further asked dairy farmers to sell their products to Kenya Cooperative Creameries for improved payments.

The exercise is expected to last for the next one month and all the expenses will be catered for by the MP.
