Uasin Gishu County farmers will benefit from more efficient Artificial Insemination (AI) services due to an increase in production of Nitrogen Liquid produced by the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Center (KAGRC).
Speaking on Thursday during the handing over of the Liquid Nitrogen Plant to KAGRC, Agriculture CeC Dr Cyril Cheruiyot said farmers from the region will benefit since they have been spending a lot of money on purchasing the liquid from other counties.
“We are determined to maximise the opportunities to increase the number of heifers within which will help us meet the demand of Artificial Insemination Services," he said.
Dr Cheruiyot also added that the production of AI has now risen to 1,000-3,000 doses per month, compared to the initial 300 doses, which is a very positive indicator to the benefit of the plant.
He said that the funds which were initially used to purchase the liquid will now be channeled to buying AI services that will assist farmers and increase the production of livestock.
