Farmers in Uasin Gishu County will now vaccinate their animals for Sh50 instead of Sh80, as the devolved unit moves to control diseases.
According to Governor Jackson Mandago, this will increase milk and meat production since animals will be free from diseases.
Speaking during a public baraza at Murgusi Dispensary on Saturday, Mandago directed vaccination of cattle be administered at Sh50 down from the previous Sh80.
"This will help farmers to control animal diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease, Yellow Fever among others," he said.
During the occasion, 15 dips in Ng'enyilel Ward got free acaricide which is part of the subsidisation of dipping prices.
"All 500 dips across the county will be getting the free supplies of acaricides for one year after which they will be self-sustaining cattle keepers are currently paying Sh10 per cow, after the county subsidised the price that was Sh 30. The free supplies sustain the subsidy. We want our people to make it mandatory to take their cattle for dipping as the price is now affordable."
He also called upon farmers to use Artificial Insemination to get high quality meat and milk to improve their livelihoods.
"We want to come out of the tradition where bulls were used. We need to move with technology for us to improve our yields," he added.
