Professor Stanley Chepkwony, the Nakuru Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, said that farmers should register their names and make early payments for seeds and fertilizers at the National Cereals and Produce Board offices to avoid last minute rush.

“Seeds and fertilizers are now available in government outlets, and farmers should take advantage of the subsidized prices for their own benefit,” said Chepkwony.

On the issue of milk farming the CEO said that the county government was working with partners to establish cooling plants in designated areas in the county so that they might avoid the losses that usually occur when farmers who milk their cows during the day are unable to store their milk for selling.

Chepkwony has challenged the department of roads in the county as well as other elected leaders to stop playing the blame game on who was to repair different roads in the county. Chepkwony said that the farmers were the ones who suffered, losing their produce to poor road networks.

He said that leaders should give priority to improving the road network considering that farming is a major source of income for the county.
