Speaking on Thursday in Maseno, Anne Kavemba from the Ministry of Agriculture Kisumu warned locals against using un-certified seeds.

“Beware of existence of fake brands of seeds in the market. We have had cases of farmers suffering losses due to some brands of seeds in the market,” said Kavemba.

She asked the farmers to buy seeds from recognized companies and in well-known outlets in the market.

“Some individuals are taking advantage of the ignorance of farmers in the current market to manufacture fake seeds which are of low quality or not treated for diseases,” warned Kavemba.

She added that the farmers should buy seeds from recognized companies such as Simlaw Seeds Company, Monsato, Royal seed among others.

She also urged farmers who preserve their own seeds for the following season to avoid that and buy quality seeds that have been tested and allows for quality germination and produce.
