Farmers in the North Rift are unhappy with the move to de-whip Moiben MP Silas Tiren from the Agriculture committee after he was elected its chairman.

Farmers who had called for the election of an  MP from the region to head the committee said that the move will hamper agriculture reforms.

The farmers led by Kipkorir Menjo said Tiren should be allowed to serve in his position because he is fit. "The position was help by an MP from North Eastern but this time we wanted to have someone who understands challenges farmers are going through," said Kipkorir.

He called on leaders from the region to unite and ensure the lawmaker is given a chance to serve.

"Our problems will end if Tiren serves as the chairman of the agriculture committee. He understands the agricultural challenges we are facing and we are sure he will serve farmers well with equality," he added.

Kipkorir noted that region must be represented well and any blackmail won't be accepted.

"It is disrespectful for the MP to be kicked out yet he won. He was elected on August 8 to serve the people not some egocentric individuals," he said.
