According to the farmers, there was need for the county to rehabilitate and maintain rural access roads to gravel standards to accelerate economic growth.

Speaking in Nyamira when they were collecting their fertilizers on Tuesday, the farmers said that they fear they will face the same challenges they faced during the El nino if the county government do not ensure the roads are repaired on time.

Stephen Kombo, a farmer said that the rehabilitation of rural feeder roads to gravel standards will lower production costs, create employment and ease access to markets for them.

“All we want is easy access to market and buying centers for our products and that can only be enabled if the county government ensures that the roads are rehabilitated,” he added.

He called upon the department of roads, transport, public works and utilities to commence integrated ward development plan.

This comes barely a few months since the Elnino rains ended and the area feeder roads were not favoring the farmers to transport the products.
