Kisii County farmers have been urged to engage in agribusiness as a way of improving their income and create employment among the youth thus enabling them improve their livelihoods.

According to Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, the county is currently working hard to create awareness on the importance of agribusiness among farmersi in various parts of the counties as a way of employing the youth to earn better returns.

Speaking when meeting head of  farmers SACCO at a Kisii Hotel the governor acknowledged the importance of tea mechanization in enabling the youth to learn important skills and making them more knowledgeable.

“Tea mechanization has made more youth to be semi-skilled making them to earn even more compared to manual tea farming,”  Ongwae said on Friday.

Ongwae said despite the impact of global climate change, they had employed minimum tillage as a way of conserving water loss in some parts of the county and also they were partnering with financial institutions to boost their work.

“Farmers should embark in commercializing their activities as this will see them improve their livelihoods above all economically empower generations” added Ongwae.

“Passion and purpose defines to you what you want and this is determined by what you engage in,” he said.

He advised added farmers to take crop insurance covers saying they were of benefit to them.
