Agriculture experts took the initiative to inform farmers on the benefits of adopting aquaculture.

Speaking in Chepkero on Friday after visit successful farmers' ponds, Cosmas Langat the County Fisheries Officer said the county has over 200 major dams that are potentially capable of rearing fish.

He said there was need to practice fish farming following a high demand of fish in the county and neighbouring devolved units.

“Over 90 per cent of fish consumed in Eldoret town is from Uganda. This is an issue that the county analysed and decided to educate farmers on how they could benefit from fish farming," said Langat.

Mr Lagat said the county has initiated the building of a hatchery and aqua shop in Eldoret town.

He added: “The county has purchased a machine that palletizes feed which will reduce the problem of fish feeds amongst the farmers.

The constructed market will facilitate a one on one selling of fish without any obstacles, he said.
