Muhoroni/Koru ward residents have been urged to embrace cooperative societies to improve their livelihoods.
Muhoroni/Koru Member of County Assembly (MCA), Willis Ogonyo, said many farmers in the region have been in the sugarcane cooperative that has given them little returns.
Ogonyo said he is now tilting his people towards forming other cooperative societies for poultry and dairy farming.
He said he has convened a meeting with newly formed, Mutwala Poultry Cooperative Society, to give farmers more tips.
“I am convening a forum for farmers in my ward that will help them on how cooperative society works plus the benefits of cooperatives,” said Ogonyo.
He said there will be a team from governor’s office who will give insightful information regarding the formation of a cooperative society.
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu, Ogonyo said the meeting is open to everybody in his ward.
He said poultry and dairy can do well in his ward and if farmers join hands they can do marvelous.
“We have capable farmers who, if join hands can get better returns under a cooperative society,” said Ogonyo.
Ogonyo said when he went to Israel for benchmarking he learnt a lot on poultry farming which he will share with his people.
