Small scale farmers in Naivasha have been asked to keep off land near Lake Naivasha.

Mbogo Kamau, an environmentalist and Imarisha board acting chief officer, said the farmers have encroached on riparian land which is a threat to the Lake.

“Farmers are taking advantage of the receding water levels due to low rainfall to encroach land. Farmers should be barred from cultivating lands near the lake to ensure aquatic animals are safe,” he said.

The officer added that the farmers use chemicals in their farming activities which will harm aquatic animals and plants.

“Sub-merged nutriets will cause blooming of algae and other harmful substances thus affecting the aquatic animals,” he said
