Speaking on Sunday at Mosobeti market during a meet-farmers' campaign sponsored by the county government, they said most farmers had partitioned their lands poorly, leading to low yields.

They challenged farmers to embrace paddocking as not only a way of increasing yields but also a way of allowing nutrients to accumulate in the soils.

“In any farming activity, it is essential that farmers are aware of paddocking. It gives you an opportunity of making maximum use of the land by improving yields. Unfortunately though, many of you have not portioned their lands,” said agricultural extension officer John Nyakego.

“Paddocking is essential since it accumulates nutrients in the soil and that is why you have to embrace it. Ensure you also carry out rotational farming as recommended by our officers,” Nyakego added.

During the exercise, a number of farmers benefited from free chemicals donated by the county government as a way of boosting agricultural yields especially this rainy season.

“The county government through the ministry of agriculture has given out those agricultural chemicals so that you apply them on your crops to improve your yields,” said county representative Agnes Omwoyo.

Among the chemicals that were distributed included pesticides and insecticides that are essential for crop growth especially this cold season.
