Uasin Gishu CeC in charge of Agriculture Samuel Yego has urged farmers in the region to practice crop rotation.

Yego said this will help to neutralise the soils since most of them are acidic leading to poor or low yields.

“Farmers should ensure that they plant different types of crops for some season and avoid planting only one crop for many years in the same piece,” he said in Eldoret town, Tuesday.

“I also urge farmers to make good use of the of the county soil lab by bringing their soil samples to be tested at sh 1,000 only. This will help a farmer to know the type of crop and fertilizer to be used in his farm,” he added.

He, however, called upon farmers to diversify into horticulture farming which has ready market both locally and international compared to maize and wheat.

“Let's come out of the tradition of only growing maize and wheat and try horticulture since people are making allot money of money with just a small piece of land,” noted Yego.
