According to Suneka Sub-county Agricultural Officer Joshua Mogere, farmers in the area have a tendency of preparing their firms when it is raining, of which does not give good yields since the weeds do not dry up in time.

“This has been a problem to farmers in the county, they always start preparing the shambas during the rains instead of doing so early enough, the county will help them learn more on the Kisii highland seasons and when it is the best time to do so,” said Mogere.

He also added that the government wants to produce enough food for the whole county, and the surplus to be sold to other needy counties, noting that through proper planning, all this can be achieved.

This comes barely a few days after many parts of the country experienced short rains, with farmers hoping for longer rains as they prepare for the planting season.
