Speaking at Kisii Primary school today when he hosted various farming group leaders Agriculture Finance Corporation (AFC) Chairperson Samuel Chirchir said farmers would only make more income and enhance their growth easily if they can get funds from institutions.

“Through loans farmers can easily buy the latest machines, adopt to new technology hence boost even the countries food security,” he added.

Chirchir said the organisation is now looking into helping farmers from the region get loans to improve their farming activities so that they can repay back according to the agreement they will be having.

He urged farmers in maize growing zones to grow alternative crops in the wake of the lethal maize Necrosis disease which has destroyed the crop in thousands of acres in the past five planting seasons.

“Better farmers learn from the past and ensure they get more yields rather than making losses,” he added.

He pointed out that despite the destruction, farmers in the region continued engaging in maize farming ignoring advice of experts thereby making many households food insecure.
