Farmers in Subukia have appealed to Nakuru County Government to revive tomato factory in the area. The farmers cited that they were undergoing huge losses as their fruits perished due to poor storage. Speaking to the press in the area, farmers claimed that they needed help in managing their fruits. “Our tomatoes are of very good quality but we often lose them since they get spoilt within a short time, “said Anne Mwihaki. Mwihaki cited that the county government should look into ways of ensuring that the tomatoes produced more products. “We would like to produce tomato paste, tomato sauce and chilli sauce like we did before. Unfortunately our tomatoes are only for eating and cooking which makes them less valuable,” she added. Micheal Muchemi claimed that the reviving of the factory will also offer jobs for the area residents. “Most of the youths in this area do not have jobs and the government will really help us curb this,” he added. Nakuru Minister for Agriculture Stanley Kiprono Chepkwony cited that they were looking for partners to help revive the factory. “We call on possible investors to look into helping us make this factory as active as it was before,” he added.
