Farmers in Uasin Gishu county have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri.
Led by the Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) Uasin Gishu branch director Kipkorir Arap Menjo, the farmers claimed Kiunjuri had failed in addressing their issues.
“It is sad that since he took over, he has just been frustrating farmers, he told us that our over Sh3 billion NCPB owe us will be paid in two weeks but up to now nothing has been done. How will farmers plant maize without funds?” said Menjo during farmers demonstration at the Eldoret National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot, Thursday.
“Kiunjuri promised to supply farmers with enough subsidized fertilizers but instead of supplying DAP the NCPB depot is full of CAN which is used for topdressing, surely why is he doing this to farmers yet planting season is on?” he added.
They further regretted voting for the Jubilee government.
“As farmers from the region we really had faith in the Jubilee government since it promised to address our issues but as I am talking things are deteriorating. We call upon President Kenyatta to show Kiunjuri the door for sanity to prevail," added the Uasin Gishu KFA director.
