Farmers in Uasin Gishu County have been warned against milk hawking.

Kenya Dairy Board Eldoret Branch manager Samson Limo said this encourages the sale of contaminated milk that has not been pasteurized.

"We want residents to get quality and not quantity milk since milk hawker’s sale watery and unhygienic milk which is a threat to people's health," he said in Eldoret town, Monday.

“I urge farmers to shun hawking of raw milk but instead sell it to registered processors to earn competitive price and also protect consumers from consuming unhygienic milk,” he added.

He revealed that the board has started programmes of sensitizing farmers on the dangers of milk hawking and encouraging them to deliver their milk to KCC.

“Farmers should take advantage of the prompt payment for deliveries by KCC by delivering their milk to a nearby depot. We want farmers to reap from their sweat,” noted Limo.

He challenged farmers to plant fodder crops for them to use it during dry season to ensure there is steady milk production.
