The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KBS) has asked farmers to be cautious so as to avoid buying fake fertilizers as panting season sets in.
KBS North Rift manager Vincent Cheruiyot while speaking in Eldoret town said cartels are selling substandard fertilizers to farmers after realizing that there is a rising demand in the region.
“Farmers should be careful not to buy low-quality fertilizers from the dubious business people who are out to exploit them. Traders caught selling sub-standard fertilizers should be reported to authorities,” Mr. Cheruiyot said.
He called on farmers to ensure that they buy fertilizers from accredited dealers.
"Fertilizers without an official stamp from KBS are fake and farmers are advised not to buy such low-quality fertilizers which will not give them good harvest,” added the KBS North Rift manager
He, however, said that the agency had launched a crackdown to nab traders selling fake fertilizers to farmers in the region.
