Pyrethrum farmers have welcomed plans to revive the crop in Nakuru region.
Eburru Farmers Association chairperson Lydia Nyota said
"The revival of pyrethrum sector is a Christmas gift to scores of farmers. It used to be a major cash crop which was the region’s economic backbone," said Nyota on Wednesday.
"For years, pyrethrum farming was our only source of income. Its return will ensure many households get a decent living," she added.
Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui is spearheading efforts to bring back to life the once flourishing sector.
Kinyanjui has reached out to governors in the crop growing counties to boost the sector's revival.
"We are calling on the national government to increase funding in this sector like it has been the case with coffee and cane farming. In doing so, our efforts to revive the pyrethrum farming will bear fruits," the county boss said recently.
