After the planting season, there comes a season where farmers control pests and weeds. As most of the farmers in Uasin Gishu county are large-scale, they use chemicals to control pests and diseases.

Most farmers in the county have been controlling weeds and pests without taking any precautionary measures. The kinds of Herbikill, Lumax, and Guardianmax are herbicides that can even cause death when just sprayed to the plants without using the protective clothes.

County Executive in charge of Agriculture in Uasin Gishu Samuel Yego says farmers should take caution at this season so as to evade premature death.

"It is our duty to stick to the precautions posted on the chemical containers so as to avoid unnecessary exposure of our bodies to predisposing factors of death," added Yego.

He also advised farmers to wear all the protection gears when applying the pesticides so as to evade side effects caused by chemicals.

The chemicals used have a glyco-phosphate that is an active ingredient that penetrates into the body and interferes with normal body functioning.

It is therefore important to be cautioned and stay safe from this harmful chemicals and this will be done by only adhering to the precautionary measures.
