The county government of Kisumu has been asked to fast track the establishment of water sporting on Lake Victoria to promote tourism in the region.
County Assembly House committee Chairman on Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Jacktone Onunga has asked the Tourism CeC executive Dr. Rose Kisia to fast track the establishment of the sporting activity for tourism to flourish in the county.
Speaking to our reporter in his ward office in Nyalenda on Tuesday, Onunga said that through the establishment of the water sporting, tourism and investment would flourish, hence earning the county foreign exchange.
“We had passed a tourism bill last year as a house that was to see the immediate establishment of major events that could promote our tourism sector better,” said Onunga.
“The county government is not taking the matter seriously as we have not heard of any plans to execute the bill, which the assembly spent sleepless nights working on. The role of the county assembly is legislation, while the executive is supposed to implement whatever we have passed,” added Onunga.
Nominated MCA Farida Salim, who is a member of the committee also asked the county government to act fast in implementing the already passed bills for the county to grow and develop.
