Two people were on Thursday evening rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries following their involvement in a road accident along Eldoret-Nakuru highway at Cheplaskei just after a heavy downpour.
The 6PM accident occurred when a motorcycle tried to go past a stationary matatu and had a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer which was headed to Eldoret from Nakuru.
Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga confirmed the incident saying that passenger Levis Kiprop on the motorcycle died on the spot while the motorcyclist John Mukhwana survived the accident and went to hospital where he was later discharged.
Mr Mutunga said that the accidents have been on the rise because of the heavy downpours this month.
He urged, drivers, motorists and residents to be vigilant when on the road during this rainy season to avoid further accidents.
