A father and son were on Wednesday arraigned before a Kisii Court and charged with subjecting a 15 year old girl to early marriage.
The accused Edward Kambaga, 55 and his son Erick Kambaga, 20 pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Kisii Senior Principal Magistrate Nathan Shiundu.
According to the charge sheet, the first accused Edward Kambaga was charged with intentionally failing to protect an 15 year old from harmful cultural practices that affected her life on diverse dates between 25th and 27th January 2018 at Itumbe village in Kisii County.
Erick, was separately charged with marrying a 15 year old girl contrary to section 14 as read with section 20 of the children’s act.
The Senior Principal Magistrate ordered Kisii Officer Commanding police station (OCS) to take Erick for age assessment before the hearing of his case on 1st February 2018.
At the same time, the Senior Principal Magistrate released the first accused Edward on a Sh 200,000 bond until the hearing of his case on 14th March, 2018 while the mention will be on 14th February 2018.
The Court further ordered that the 15 year old girl be placed under the care a local Girls Foundation for three years for counseling and education.
