An elderly man was recently thoroughly caned at his son’s burial after he insisted that the son be buried at a certain point that the villagers and family could not agree to.
The incident happened in Mokomoni area, where the old man attracted the fury of the villagers, who had had enough of him and his nagging.
The deceased, a bodaboda operator, is said to have been at loggerheads with the father and had to move and live with his grandmother after his mum passed on.
However, after he passed on, he had to be taken back to his home for burial according to the Kisii culture.
The man had not built a house in his home, and the father, who had already married another wife, said he could not allow him to be buried in his compound.
He suggested that another small structure be set up, where the man would be laid to rest.
However, the villagers and the close family would not hear any of it, and after hours of arguing, the caned him to shut him up.He ran for his dear life, with church members forced to intervene an calm the situation that was getting out of hand.
They accused the old man of frustrating his son to the point that he had to run from their home. He was later laid to rest but after a not-so-peaceful moment.
