A sombre mood engulfed Kawese Village in Kisumu West as five family members, a father, and his four sons were laid to rest on Sunday, January 28.The five died in a grisly road accident on the eve of the New Year at Migaa, near Salgaa, when a Nairobi-bound bus crashed into a truck. Thirty-eight others also perished in the crash.Bishop Martin Odol, his wife, Phoebe Achieng and children aged two months, four, eight and 14 were traveling back to Nairobi after spending their Christmas holiday at their rural home.Achieng who was the only survivor from the family recuperated for three weeks at the Nakuru County Referral Hospital.Family and friends thronged Odol's home in a funeral they described as the first in the area.Nelson Kabaka, Odol's cousin, said the funeral had been delayed to allow Achieng to recuperate and attend the ceremony.Mr Odol until his death, was a mason living in Nairobi’s Mukuru Kayaba Estate. He was also the Bishop of Holy Ghost Church, Kayaba.
