[Photo|abc.net.au]A 13-year-old girl in Kisumu was on Thursday last week killed by a crocodile at the shores of Lake Victoria in Kamwanda Village, Osiri Sub-Location.Rose Achieng had accompanied fellow children, eight of them, to take a bathe at the shores of the lake.“Without screaming and in the split of a second, we suddenly saw Achieng submerge in the water and she disappeared just like that,” Pamela Akoth, who witnessed the incident told Daily Nation.She was attacked as she was getting out of the lake.Her dismembered body was recovered about 200 metres from the scene after a two-day search, with help of paid divers.Her aunt, Eunice Akoth, who lived with her said they only found her head and right hand in a thicket outside the water."The crocodile had eaten the rest of the body,” she said.Achieng schooled at Mboto Sunrise Primary School, and would be a candidate in 2018.The body was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.Residents are now leaving in fear of other attacks, with some saying the attack was not the first one.They called on the county government to sink boreholes so as residents can avoid going to the lake for water“This is the fifth attack by crocodiles to have taken place in this village in the last two years," said a villager.
