Fear has gripped Makongeni area in Thika after a decomposing body of a middle aged man was discovered along River Chania on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the badly mutilated decomposing body was discovered by residents on Thursday afternoon.

Police say that the man might have been killed elsewhere before his body being dumped along the river.

Confirming the incident , Thika OCPD Willy Simba said that they have launched probe into the matter.

He said that documents found in the pockets of the deceased showed that he was not from the area.

" We have launched investigation to establish those behind the killing and their motive," he told journalists on Friday.

The OCPD urged residnts to volunteer information that will help the police crack down on criminals.

He warned residents especially boda boda and tuk tuk operators who collude with criminals.

Makongeni Assistant Chief Simon Waithaka appealed to residents to embrace community policing iniatives.

He said that Nyumba Kumi will help fight crime if locals adopt it. 

There have been concerns over deteriorating security in some areas within Thika.

On Wednesday, tuk tuk operators issued  police with one week ultimatum to address rising insecurity across Thika especially Kiganjo, Kiandutu and Makongeni.
