Tension is reportedly building in Kenya’s largest slum of Kibera as the youths openly organise themselves either for chaos or to defend their local communities ahead of the General Election.
The Kibera youths are positioning themselves in their different zones and are said to have selected their leaders.
According to Nation, some of the youths said they will fight members of other communities should their candidates lose so as to “send a message to the government and the world”.
This came after the European Union (EU) elections observer mission cautioned citizens of possible chaos during and after the elections.
A fortnight ago, hate leaflets surfaced in sections of Kibera warning some communities to move out immediately if their candidate got rigged.
“This is the last time we are being rigged out,” said a resident as quoted by the Nation.
“We will not accept the outcome, come what may. We are just giving an early warning. It is no longer a joke," he added.
