Kiamaina chief Peter Kariuki warned that the activities of Mungiki sect are outlawed and urged youth from Kiamaina slum to keep off the sect.

“The government has outlawed any activities of Mungiki and any one found engaging in its activities will have to face full force of the law,” said Kariuki.

The administrator's warning comes barely a day after 18 members of Mungiki sect were arrested on Saturday at Menengai Forest, Bahati Ward where they were carrying out traditional rituals.

The cult members were nabbed during an operation led by Bahati OCPD Duncan Nguthu after a tip-off from members of public.

Speaking on Sunday at Kiamaina Trading Centre, Bahati Sub-county, in a security meeting, Kariuki urged youth to engage in legitimate activities.

“The government will not spare anyone involved in criminal activities,” said Kariuki.

The chief also urged residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative in a bid to enhance security in the area.

“I want residents to be vigilant of any suspicious activities that may undermine the tranquillity of Kiamaina and report such incidences to my office for action,” said Kariuki.

He further pleaded with youth to start activities that would not shame their status like farming or starting small businesses to support their livelihood.
