There was fear at the Likoni ferry crossing after a Probox car plunged into the ocean on Saturday evening. At around 7:10 pm, one of the ferries, MV Kilindini while offloading vehicles at the Island ramp, a white Probox Registration number KCF 813C plunged into the sea.
Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) said the driver of the car, middle aged Ahmed Ibrahim, engaged in the reverse gear as the ferry offloaded other vehicles, forcing him to plunge in to the waters.
"The driver who was alone in the said vehicle was rescued by our staff alive," KFS said in a communication.
As at 7:45 pm on Saturday, the vehicle was still submerged in the sea as salvage operations were expected to continue on Sunday.
"Meanwhile ferries continue operations without a hitch," noted the Ferry Service.
