The MCAs who held a press conference at the County Assembly compound on Thursday said there was a sinister motive in Ombara’s removal, demanding that she be reinstated immediately.

They accused Governor Jack Ranguma of playing to the tunes of cartels who wanted to siphon the Sh4 billion Kisumu Urban Project (KUP) funds under the custody of the city manager.

South East Seme Ward Representative Petronila Omondi said the Executive had erred in removing Ms Ombara from her position without clear reason.

“We are bereaved as women leaders in the county and we are serious this time round. The governor must tell us what the city manager has done to warrant her removal from the position,” said Ms Omondi.

“Few women hold positions in high offices within the county and Ms Ombara’s removal is disrespectful of women,” said nominated MCA Carolyne Ogot.

According to County Secretary Humphrey Nakitare, Ms Ombara was transferred to head the Lake Front Development Project, a UN Habitat-funded project aimed at developing the Lake Victoria shores within the city.

“We are aware of people who want to loot the KUP money which Ms Ombara has safeguarded, plus other contracts within the project, but we tell the governor to reinstate her because as the Assembly we will not sit to watch this kind of intimidation on female leaders,” said Nominate MCA Lydia Odhiambo.
