An Administration Police Officer on Friday night committed suicide by shooting herself using an AK-47 rifle after a quarrel with her boyfriend.
The incident which happened in Bureti sub county was confirmed by Bureti sub county administration police commandant Samsom Gathuku.
Gathuku said the deceased, Maureen Jebitok, 27, had been given the rifle at 6:30pm on Friday to go and guard the IEBC offices in Litein town.
The police chief said he received the information the same day at 9:30pm that Jebitok had shot herself dead in the administration police quarters as her boyfriend, Victor Rono, who had visited her for five days watched incident helplessly.
Gathuku said a police officer who spend most time with the deceased reported that Jebitok, who was known in the camp to be quiet and always kept to herself had seen a message from her boyfriend's phone sent by another woman suspected to be a teacher.
"The message appears to have disturbed her a lot resulting to a long day dispute with the boyfriend who is a Kenya Wildlife Service ranger attached to Naromuru," Gathuku said.
The boyfriend was arrested and taken to Litein police station and is assisting police in investigating the incident.
