A Senator has praised Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba's Sunday proposal that Kikuyu and in extension Kenyan men should marry more than one wife to tackle the problem of street children.
Millicent Omanga (Nominated) said Gathoni's thoughts would work towards reinstating decency in society especially at a time the family unit is disrespected.
"I celebrate you. We have to get out of hypocrisy and tackle the issues and challenges killing our family setup as they are! No two way about it. At a time of widespread senselessness among us women, Gathoni Wa Muchomba you have displayed rare sense," Omanga said on her official Facebook page.
Omanga said at a time of commonplace man-worship by women, Gathoni had rebuked men for misconduct adding that the MP had displayed depth, authenticity, and character.
"Gathoni you have stood to be counted, called out all cowards masquerading as men, who are quick to sow the seed and equally quick to disappear through the cracks of the hind wall, leaving the heavy burden of nurturing to women alone."
Omanga made the remarks hours after Gathoni asked rich men from Central Kenya to consider marrying more than one wife adding that polygamy in Kikuyu land and in most African settings are recognized.
"We give birth to these children, and we do not want to own up to them. I am saying, if you are a man from the Kikuyu community, and you can sustain five wives, have them and if you are a man and you are in a position to bring up many children, do it," the first time MP said.
