Mombasa County KNUT secretary general Dan Aloo has challenged Jomvu MP Badi Twalib to ensure all schools in the constituency are fenced.Aloo said majority of schools in the constituency are not fenced, a situation that is making students fear for their security as the school grounds are often used as pathways by locals.Aloo said fencing the schools will provide a conducive environment for learning as the measures will ensure trespassers do not interfere with learning activities in schools. He gave an example of Jomvu Girls Secondary School which he said is bordered by unsafe areas, thus putting the safety of the residents at risk.“We know that the school borders drug dens and must be fenced so that our girls feel secure,” said Aloo.Aloo said other leaders were working towards securing schools in their constituencies, adding that Jomvu should not be left behind.“We have seen Mvita legislature Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir leading by example and Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has also launched a similar project,” he added. The KNUT official also argued that the move will protect school land from land grabbers. He said most schools in Mombasa are battling with encroachment, adding that Jomvu constituency will face the same if such measures are not implemented.Responding to the remarks, Badi said the fencing project will be given priority, adding that he is working towards ensuring the Jomvu Girls Secondary Schools is completely fenced.“I fully understood the magnitude of the situation and will work towards constructing a permanent fence at Jomvu Girls and other schools in the constituency,” said the MP.
