Commuters and motorists will have to employ more patience while trying to cross the Indian Ocean with the help of Kenya Ferry Services, at Likoni channel.

This is after KFS 'word' to restore the operations of MV Nyayo at the channel has not yet happened.

On Monday, KFS managing director Bakari Gowa said MV Nyayo would be back in service by the end of the day. By Tuesday afternoon, MV Nyayo was not operating.

On Monday only three ferries were in operation, MV Likoni, MV Harambee and MV Kilindini, after three major ferries including the new one developed mechanical problems. Likoni channel normally operates four ferries.

“Three ferries are in operation. Make a point of regarding safety signs wherever you are on board. Wishing you safe sail,” tweeted KFS on Monday.

The two other ferries which got the highest capacity were all docked at one end of the Indian Ocean. MV Jambo, which is the newest ferry at the channel developed a problem, together with MV Nyayo.

Both on Monday and Tuesday, commuters were seen jumping over the walls from the waiting bay to secure limited available spaces on the three operating ferries.  The agitated crowd could not be controlled by the security personnel at the channel. They watched helplessly
