Maseno university students have had to suffer for a long time without adequate facilities, one of them being lecture halls.

The effort by the administration to put up tents to serve as temporary lecture halls did not work out properly. It was hampered when students complained that they could not use tents as lecture halls hence their removal.

The university Vice Chancellor, Prof Dominic Makawiti, however said that the tents were not meant for classes but as venues for group discussions among students.

The rush for seats and to secure a sitting position in a lecture hall has punctuated class activities at the university with some going to an extent of sitting and listening to the lectures from outside the class.

They have also had to use the open-field graduation square for lectures.

“This time we are helpless since the students' organisation is not fully operational', said Pauline Mwanzia, student at the University.

She added that it has been hard for many people especially in departments that admit a high number of students.

During exam time, students have been spotted filling up the halls and some go to an extent of sitting outside as they do their exams.

“I hope the administration is seeing this and will do something come new year,” said Oscar Mong'are, a student.
