Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has raised concerns over the low number of youths, women and people living with disabilities applying for development funds.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, the CS observed that the number of youths who have applied for Uwezo funds is very low.
She said that the situation is worrying as the funds were meant to improve and empower youths, women and people with disabilities.
“It’s unfortunate that many young people are not willing to apply for development funds that have been set aside by the government,” she said.
Waiguru said the situation is of a serious concern especially in the fight against rising cases of unemployment in the country.
She observed that unemployment will only be controlled if young people take advantage of the funds that the government has set aside for them.
Waiguru called on youths to draft business plans and apply for the funds, noting that measures have been put in place to help them access the resources.
She said that the youths who qualify for the Uwezo funds will be trained before being given the money to start their own businesses.
