Speaking to journalists at the St Vincent Pastoral Center on Thursday, Ongera said the cases are lower as compared to last year where the FGM cases were at 100 percent.

Ongera was flanked by other women leaders in Kisii and Nyamira counties among them Dr Susan Chebet from Elgeyo Marakwet, Alice Chae from Nyamira county and Regina Nyeris from West Pokot.

They said that among the factors which promote FGM cases is culture whereby most communities in Kisii believe that without circumcision one is not fit to be a woman.

The campaign is aiming to educate societies around the country about the effects of  this practice on the girl child.
