Kisii community has been challenged to campaign against Female Genital Mutilation which is going on  in the County.

Addressing residents on Thursday at Gusii stadium during the launch of the Board's  logo, communication and media strategy against the fight of FGM. The Principal Secretary ministry of public service, youth and Gender affairs Mrs Zeinab Hussein challenged them to be in the forefront of fighting graft.

The PS said that Kisii records the highest percentage of the vice which stands at 88% so it needs to be addressed in partnership with all stakeholders.

“ I would like to urge members of the community in partnership with other stakeholders to campaign against this vice since it is still practised by some individuals,” she said.

“My appeal to the chiefs is to work with the mothers who report to them about the ongoing process of FGM in the areas,” she added.

Kisii county Women representative who was also present urged the community to stop FGM by saying that it does not add any value to the girls.

Her sentiments were echoed by Lina Kilimo who said that FGM is against the law of Kenya hence the community should no longer force their girls to undergo the process.
