According to the statement sent to media houses by the organisation on Wednesday, FIDA has questioned the manner in which the GSU police deployed in the university during the protests handled the situation.

There were claims that female students were sexually assaulted during the riots. FIDA, however, said female students were not participating in the riots and said that GSU entering their hostels were a clear indication of ‘purposed atrocities.’

FIDA also said that it had reports that the students who were sexually assaulted also had their property taken forcefully by the police.

‘Their property like money, mobile phones, and laptops were stolen from them. GSU officers have perfected their action of looting from innocent Kenyans and there is no action taken against them. This is a confirmation that women are used as tools of war or conflict,’’ read part of the statement.

The organisation has called on the university management to ensure that such riots are not witnessed in the school. It further called upon the government to investigate the claims and bring the perpetrators to account.
