Fierce battles between county askaris on one side and hawkers and touts on the other side are the key problems straining county operations in the Nairobi CBD.
Immediately he took reigns at City Hall, Governor Mike Sonko imposed a matatu ban in the CBD.
This was however shut down by matatu operators who said the ban was imposed without consultations.
Later, there was an influx of hawkers in the city's CBD.
Although the county askaris have managed to remove some of these traders, a majority of them are still doing their trade right in the heart of the city, especially in evenings when 'kanjo' askaris are off duty.
A section of Nairobians feel that this is to blame for the increased cases of crime in the city, with residents already reporting to be losing phones and other possessions in the hands of rogue street thieves.
Lawful traders are now counting losses owing to the constant disorder and battles between 'kanjo' and hawkers.
Sometimes they have to close their shops until the running battles are over, and this takes a toll on their profit margins.
