Fifteen major buildings in Eldoret town are due for demolition due to their dangerous and substandard nature.
The Uasin Gishu government and the National Construction Authority have formed a task force to review all buildings in the town and other parts of the county.
Speaking to journalists, Housing executive Robert Ngisirey said that the task force will come up with a substantial reports on the buildings, and take recommended action immediately.
He added that the team would not hesitate to inspect both completed buildings and those that are under construction.
“Some poor quality buildings have already been identified after a survey that we conducted , we have asked the contractors and all those putting up buildings to ensure they comply with the law,” said Ngisirey.
He further said that the NCA issued directives on compliance, following recent deaths from two major buildings that collapsed in Nairobi.
“Shoddy construction poses a risk to the lives of citizens and shall not be condoned,” he added.
