Another family brawl is taking shape over monies that late Homa bay Senator Otieno Kajwang left.
Two widows are locked in a judicial tussle over Kajwang’s reported vast wealth.
Dr. Rose Bujehela Otieno and Faith Vivian Otieno both claim to be Kajwang’s deserving widows each demanding to benefit from their late husband’s wealth.
Reports indicate the late Senator’s brother Joseph Ajwang’ has moved to court too to claim benefit of the existing affluence left by Kajwang.
The late Senator’s father is said to be leaning towards Faith Vivian in the ballooning legal battle.
Rose claims she was married in church and her late husband could not have contracted another marriage.
“I have refused to recognize Faith as a widow or wife of my late husband and I continue to do so,” she stated in one of her affidavits.
She however stated that she has no intention of disinheriting any of the deceased’s children or any beneficiaries provided they are legally valid.
Faith who is said to have two children from the Bado Mapambano political figure. Dismissing Rose’s stand, she claims she cohabited with Kajwang’ from 1994 to 2000 when her bride price was allegedly paid as per Luo customs.
“Her denial that I was married to the deceased is only self-serving and meant to disinherit me.”
Joining the claimant list is Joseph Ajwang, the late senator’s brother who among other things, wants the courts to legally recognise a 15 million debt the departed senator was yet to honor.
In an affidavit filed at the court’s registry, Ajwang further wants the debt paid in full, but with an accrued interest calculated from the date the debt came into existence.
The case is set to be heard in February next year.
