The fight against corruption in Kenya has always been a comedy of sorts. This is mainly due to a clear lack of political goodwill from the very top.

Since the creation of the defunct KACC, now known as EACC, no chairman of this toothless outfit has ever left office ceremoniously.

Among the chairmen that have been bundled out of office previously include Harun Mwau, Aaron Ringera, PLO Lumumba, and Mumo Matemu.

The current chairman, who has been in office for barely six months, might also be on his way out after being accused of doing questionable business deals with NYS, an institution under investigation by EACC.

The EACC has almost been turned into a clearing and forwarding outfit, having cleared most of the corruption suspects that have been investigated so far.

This includes Anne Waiguru who was given a clean bill of health, Josephine Kabura, implicating her heavily to resurface shortly after her much publicised clearance.

The latest people to be cleared are IEBC commissioners who were adversely implicated in the Chickengate scandal.

I hope this is not a ploy to depict them as clean enough to conduct next year's elections since Kenyans can never buy such nonsense.

Of the few suspects they have recommended for prosecution, there has been 0 per cent rate of successful prosecution.

The big question many Kenyans would like answered; why should EACC officials continue drawing huge salaries from the taxpayers when they seem too busy doing nothing? All they do is comedy that looks like work with zero results!

Truth be told, the problem is not with the EACC but with the appointing powers. So long as the very people who give EACC officials their jobs are the lords of corruption and impunity in this country, having an effective EACC will always remain a pipe dream.

The current EACC chairman underwent a thorough vetting process. How come it was not discovered that his company was doing business with NYS, an institution under investigation by EACC?

Kenyans, let us not be cheated that corruption is being fought in this country. Kenyans must be brave enough. A complete overhaul of the entire establishment, branches, trunk and roots of corruption should condemn.

Kenyans must take charge and send any government, unable to fight corruption home. We have to do this again and again, regardless of political affiliations, until we send a clear message that we are fed up with corruption.

As we vote next year, let is vote for wise leaders to help us fight corruption.
