Mutisya was speaking in his office on Friday after leading a crackdown on illicit brew dens at different locations in the county, where over 20 people were apprehended and more 450 litres of local illicit brew nabbed.

Mutisya urged local leaders to sensitise area residents to desist from engaging in the local brew business due to its devastating impact on social lives, adding that the practice has sabotaged economic and educational activities in the area.

“This is a monster. Children have dropped out of school; we need all involved stakeholders to play their part in the fight,” said Mutsya.

He further added that members of the press and religious leaders should also take the initiative of rallying the effects of the catastrophic brew to the locals in aim of helping the police officers.

“I urge members of the clergy and the press to help us, we need to show the residents that alcohol has negative effects on people that is why we need everyone on board to help,” added Mutisya.

The officer requested the government to deploy National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) officials, to the county level so that they are easily accessible by manufacturers in order to ensure consumption of standardized liquor.

Kisii Officer Commanding Station (OCS) John Wamocho said the crackdown will continue in the area, to ensure they tame the illegal brewing.
